LaWanda Raines - Recreational and Accelerated Contemporary/Modern

Miss LaWanda received her BFA in Dance and Choreography from Virginia Commonwealth University and her MFA in Dance Performance from St. Mary’s College in San Francisco. She has worked with such artists as Fred Ho Big Red Media Company in New York City, Chris Burnside, African American Repertory Theater, and Antonio Hildalgo Paz of Carlotta Santa Flamenco Vivo and Antonio Gades Foundation. LaWanda has used her diverse experiences to choreograph Children of Eden (Manchester High School- Cary Nothnagel Director, 2004), and 1920’s-based Langston’s my man (AART, Derome Scott Director, 2011 Branching off into DHDA, a multi-media work), her original choreography, delving into the intricacies of raising a child and working with children with ADHD, was featured in Starr Foster Dance Projects’ 2012 Choreographer’s Showcase. LaWanda believes dance and arts promote an understanding of self and others that fosters positive cooperation and helps strengthen the bonds of communities.
