Our Philosophies
MISSION
At Arts in Motion Dance Academy, we are dedicated to enriching children’s lives through quality dance instruction in a nurturing and challenging environment. Our classes balance traditional technical training with fostering each child’s natural love of movement. Students in our program leave class with respect for themselves and the art form of dance. We believe that every child is a dancer!
TEACHING PHILOSOPHIES
Dance is our passion, and teaching is our calling. No matter what age group, our instructors strive to instill all AIM students with discipline, a strong work ethic, self esteem, respect for others, and an understanding of their bodies as instruments for self expression. We take our teaching seriously, but we also know the importance of having fun! Children learn best in a supportive, fun environment where they are allowed to be creative. AIM dancers know that the expectations are high and are always encouraged - but not forced - to meet those expectations. Positive reinforcement combined with encouraging, constructive feedback is the best way to build confident and proficient dancers. We teach that hard work pays off. So come on in the dance studio and let’s get movin’!
RECITAL PHILOSOPHIES
We feel that performing should be an exciting, enjoyable experience for students and their families, rather than an expensive, stressful nightmare. We try to make our Recitals as stress-free and low-cost as possible. Our Performance Fee is divided into 9 equal monthly payments so you don't get a bill for an additional charge mid-year, and we select our costumes not just on style but also based on price.
Our emphasis when teaching choreography is not to put pressure on students to be perfect, but rather to make sure they feel confident and comfortable on stage. The Fall Semester is spent learning technique and building a foundation of skills. Recital choreography is not taught until the Spring Semester (January or February) once the students have a strong foundation of technique to build upon. We have a full schedule of rehearsals the week leading up to our Recital to focus exclusively on choreography and fine-tuning dances so that every performer feels like a pro when they step on stage. A confident, stress-free dancer is a happy and radiant performer!
WHY DANCE?
Dance has countless benefits for students of all ages. Physically, dance teaches students body awareness, control, coordination, poise and balance. From 2 to 92, dancers build strength, stamina, flexibility and agility. Dance is a fun way for children to exercise and increase their fitness level.
The benefits of dance training go deeper than just muscles and bones. Dance also helps build self-esteem and self-awareness. Students express and define their feelings through different styles and qualities of movement. Dance teaches children self-discipline as they challenge themselves to work independently in the classroom. Dance also teaches cooperation among students as they learn skills and choreography together. Numerous studies have shown that dance classes can help improve children’s focus and learning skills across all areas of development and education. Students are also introduced to and grow to appreciate different cultures. Dance teaches students spatial awareness and musicality.
