In 2012, she traveled to Burkina Faso, West Africa, with the Baker- Tarapaga Dance Project to perform in the Nomad Express Festival. Inspired by her first trip to the African continent, she returned four times to train, collaborate and teach with dancers in Burkina Faso, Zambia, and South Africa. In 2014, she wrote and taught a curriculum titled “Dance in Global Contexts” at Fort Hayes High School in Columbus, Ohio for which she was awarded the Marian Wright Edleman Award for “service and dedication in the field of education” at Ohio State’s Civic Engagement Banquet.
Since returning to her hometown, she spent six years as Lead Dance Teacher at Henrico High School, Center for the Arts. Theresa has also taught at various studios, and choreographed for local companies, and music videos, including “Short Court Style” by Natalie Prass. Theresa's classes are rooted in contemporary and post-modern dance techniques, but are also influenced by her time spent training in West and South Africa, making her movement grounded, athletic, and rhythmic. Theresa is dedicated to sharing her love of dance with the community, and is thrilled to help expand the many benefits that the Arts can offer to students and families throughout the city of Richmond.
