Taylor Lourenso (she/her)
Taylor found the excitement of dance at fourteen years old. She has been trained in various dance styles including hip hop, jazz, ballet, modern, lyrical, contemporary, and tap. She is most passionate about with hip hop and contemporary. Taylor has performed at the Dominion Energy Center in Richmond alongside her dance company. She is currently studying Interdisciplinary Studies with focuses in education, psychology, and writing. She uses her own training, especially in education and psychology, in her dance classes. |
Knowing that dance can be strenuous both mentally and physically, Taylor includes mindfulness in her lessons. She likes to end her classes with breath work and musical grounding exercises to transition students before going home. Meanwhile, her classes begin with dynamic movement to prepare muscles and joints for stretches as it further protects the body from injury during class.
Aside from her scientific and psychological approach, her main focus is for every dancer in her classroom to be confident and have fun. Hours of dedication should coincide with laughter and community. She wants to encourage her students to better themselves and work hard while feeling comfortable enough to joke around and build a community. All dancers should be able to look into the studio mirror and be proud of who they are and the wonderful things they can do.
