SUMMER CLASSES
Summer classes at AIM start this Saturday, June 21st! Have you registered yet?

Our 7-Week Flex Session runs through August 9th. Because we know you and your family are busy during the summer, we offer a convenient flex schedule – choose your child’s class and sign up for as few as 4 weeks, or as many as the full 7 week session. You don’t need to start with the first class, and you don’t even need to tell us which weeks you’re coming! Tuition rates are based on the length of class and number of weeks enrolled. See the attached schedule for class days/times and specific tuition rates. There is no registration fee charged for the summer session.

We still have space in many of our summer classes, but will be consolidating/closing classes in the next few days, so be sure to call or email ASAP to reserve your spot! Call 804-741-2AIM or email [email protected] with any registration or placement questions.



JUST ADDED: “ICICLE PRINCESS CAMP”
July 21st-24th, 9:30am-12:30pm, ages 5-8
Come in from the heat and get frozen with us!  Each day includes a Ballet lesson, princess dress-up, a healthy snack, and crafts and other activities inspired by everyone's favorite movie! The fun week will finish with an informal performance for family and friends at the end of the day on Thursday. Register soon, as we expect this popular camp to fill fast!

REFERRAL PROGRAM
Help spread the word about AIM! When a new student registers and mentions that you recommended us to them, you’ll receive a $20 credit on your account! There’s no limit to the number of referral credits you can receive.

We are just one month away from the Recital! All of our dancers are working hard on practicing and perfecting their choreography, costumes have been handed out, and everyone is very excited to perform on stage! Here's the latest news at the studio.


ATTENDANCE

As we get closer to the Recital, attendance is especially crucial! Please make sure your dancer attends every class so he/she can be prepared for stage! If you know ahead of time that your child will miss his/her class due to illness or planned activity, please email [email protected] so our instructors can plan accordingly.


SEE MISS CASEY PERFORM!

RVA Dance Collective, Richmond’s premiere professional modern dance company, is having their annual spring concert this Friday and Saturday (May 9th & 10th) at 7:30pm at the Grace Street Theater. Miss Casey will be performing with the other members of the company and guest artists. This show is appropriate for all ages and is just over an hour. Tickets are $16 general admission and can be purchased at showclix.com. Come out and support local professional dance!


COSTUMES

All costumes have arrived and have been handed out in class. If your child has not received his/her costume, please contact me to set up a time to come in to try on the costume. Costumes should ONLY be worn for picture day and rehearsals, not for wearing at home for any reason. Parents are responsible for any alterations, which need to be made by Picture Day on May 17th


COSTUME UNDERGARMENTS

No underwear is permitted under costumes - all female dancers need a nude leotard to wear underneath of their costumes and male dancers need nude briefs. Nude undergarments help dancers change comfortable and quickly backstage and should not be seen under their costume. You can purchase your dancer’s nude undergarment from Disco Sports or at www.discountdance.com. Leos should have thin straps (NO SLEEVES!) that can be hidden underneath of the costume. Dancers who have midriff-baring costume or who need more chest support must wear a nude bra and performance underwear, which can also be found at discountdance.com.


MAY 12-16: NO DRESS REHEARSALS

The week of May 12th – 16th was originally scheduled as dress rehearsals during class time, as indicated in your Recital Information Packet. However, because classes rehearsed in their costumes last week, we no longer have need for these additional dress rehearsals. May 12th-16th will be regular classes – no need to bring your costumes, just arrive in your regular class attire.


RECITAL TICKETS

Recital Tickets are going fast! If you haven’t already, go to tututix.com and search One Hit Wonders to find the event page. Enter your promo code (first four letters of your child’s last name followed by AIM2014) to claim your family’s comp tickets. Additional tickets are $15 in advance and $20 at the door.


RECITAL T-SHIRT

Congratulations to Michaila Hyne, who won the Recital T-Shirt design contest! Her design will be featured on this year’s Recital T-shirt as well as on the show’s program. All performing dancers will wear the Recital T-shirt during the show’s finale. Shirts are just $10 each. This charge has been added to your May invoice.


GUEST INSTRUCTOR MASTER CLASS

Ashley Narvaez, professional dancer and VCUDance alumna, will be teaching a special master class on Saturday, May 31th for ages 7-11 at 10am, and ages 12+ at 11am. The class is just $10 per student and will be a great opportunity for dancers to expand their training and try something new! Grab a yellow flyer at the front desk for more info.

PARENT OBSERVATION WEEK
Next week, Monday March 3rd through Friday, March 7th, is Parent Observation Week. Parents will be invited into the studio to watch classes and get an up-close look at our dancers’ progress. Ensemble parents will be invited into the studio at 7:15 on Friday to watch the Ensemble dances so far.

RVA Dance Collective, the professional modern dance company Miss Casey is a member of, will be performing this Friday, February 28th at ArtWorks Gallery. The Collective has been working in collaboration with artists at the gallery for the past two months – photographers, sculptors, painters, and graphic artists have been sitting in on the dancers’ rehearsals and classes and creating work inspired by the dancers. The artwork produced from this process will be on display at the gallery, and Miss Casey and the other dancers of RVA Dance Collective will be performing twice, at approximately 7pm and 8pm.

Recital Info Packets have been handed out. Packets include rehearsal and picture day schedules, costume information, and performance information. It is vital that parents read through all information thoroughly. If you did not receive yours, please email me immediately. All info is also posted on our website.


SUMMER CLASSES & CAMPS
I’m hard at work putting together final details for an awesome summer here at AIM! More details will be released beginning next week. Register by March 31st for special discounts!


LOST AND FOUND

Hello AIM Families!

Classes are going fantastically and our instructors are very proud of how hard all of the dancers are working in class so far.  Here’s the latest news at the studio:

October Payments
October payments are now due. You should have received an invoice in your email. You can pay online via a link on your invoice, in person, or over the phone. During evening classes, there may not be anyone at the front desk to take a credit card payment. We have a designated box on the front desk for you to drop off checks when you bring your dancers to class. If you prefer to pay via credit card, you are welcome to call or come in during office hours.

Office Hours
Fall Office Hours are Mondays 11:30am-3:30pm, Wednesdays 12pm-5pm, and Fridays 11am-4pm. I will be available during these hours to answer any questions you may have and take payments over the phone or in person.

Halloween Costume Week
We want to see all of our dancers’ fun and creative costumes! The week of Halloween (Monday October 28th – Friday November 1st), students are invited to wear their costumes to dance class. Outfits which may impede movement might need to be removed, so please wear your regular class attire underneath the costume. Dancers who have class on Halloween (Thurs Oct 31st) are welcome to come to a different class that week if they will be trick-or-treating during their class time.

Recital 2014 Theme
We are excited to announce that the theme of this year’s recital will be “One Hit Wonders and Musical Legends.” Our instructors are busy selecting songs for their classes, and we’d love to have your input! If you haven’t already, be sure to “like” our page on Facebook: www.facebook.com/artsinmotiondance. Then leave us a comment on our wall telling us your favorite one hit wonders and which artists you consider to be “Musical Legends.” You just might see our dancers performing to your suggestions in June!

Costume Payments
Costume payments ($85 per class) are due November 1st. This fee will be reflected on your November invoice. We accept payments online via a link on your invoice, in person at the studio, or over the phone with a credit card. Please let me know if you have any questions about your account.

Referral Program
Your recommendations are so important to us! If you refer a friend to AIM and they mention your name when they register, you will receive a $20 referral credit on your account.  There is no limit to the number of referral credits you can receive, and we continue to accept registrations through the end of October, so spread the word!

Birthday Parties at AIM
Have a birthday coming up? Celebrate at AIM! We schedule 90 minute parties on Saturday afternoons and can customize your party for any age (4 and up) and style of dance. Contact me for more information or to book your party.

Fall Registration
Join us for our second year!  We are currently accepting registration for fall classes.  The schedule of classes is attached to this email.  We can take registration over the phone, or come in on Tuesdays from 6:30pm-8:30pm to register in person and get a free t-shirt.  We’ll also be taking registration at the open houses, below.  We’ll have activities for kids and special coupons and prizes for registering!

Kids’ Night Out

Referral Program
Tell your friends about us! If your friends mention your name when they register for fall classes at AIM, you will receive a Referral Credit of $20 on your account!  There is no limit to the number of Referral Credits you can receive, so spread the word!  Credits are given for referring new students only (not previously enrolled in 2012-2013 or summer 2013 classes).

COSTUMES
Costume order deadline is January 21st.  IF YOU HAVE NOT YET ORDERED YOUR DANCER’S COSTUMES ON COSTUMEMANAGER.COM, PLEASE DO SO IMMEDIATELY!  It can take up to 16 weeks for costumes to be manufactured and shipped, so it is EXTREMELY important that costumes be ordered ASAP in order for them to arrive in time for picture day.

RECITAL 2013 SHOWS
Our first annual Spring Recital will be held on Sunday, June 16th at the Cultural Arts Center at Glen Allen.  Classes will be split into two separate shows: 1:00pm and 4:30pm.  Dancers will be required to be at the theater 1 hour before their show time.  Each performance will be last between 60 and 90 minutes long.  We have done our best to schedule siblings and dancers in multiple classes in the same shows, however, some families will be attending both performances.  Advanced dancers will also perform in both shows.  The following charts are lists of which classes perform in which shows, but do NOT indicate the show order.  More details, including rehearsal schedules and ticket info, will be released by March 1st.

FINALE
All dancers will perform in the Finale of their show.  During the Finale, dancers come back on stage to do some more short choreography and take a final bow all together.
Finale Costume: Black pants (any style), solid green or blue top (any style), bare feet.  Finale costumes are provided by parents and may be items already owned or can be purchased anywhere.

PICTURE DAY
Mark your calendars!  Picture Day is scheduled for Saturday, May 18th at the studio.  Splendid Portraits, an experienced and reputable professional photography company, will be taking our pictures.  You can order group shots and individual portraits of your child in his/her costume.  Picture Day is a fundraiser for AIM, so I hope you will consider ordering photos!  A specific schedule and ordering info will be released by March 1st.

HURRICANE SANDY RELIEF DRIVE
Join AIM and Crave Frozen Yogurt to help victims of Hurricane Sandy in New York and New Jersey!  Wednesday 11/7 through Wednesday 11/14, we will be collecting non-perishable food items, clothing, and toys to donate to the Red Cross.  Bring in a donation and receive a free AIM water bottle and a $1.00 off coupon to Crave Frozen Yogurt (while supplies last).  If you donate during one of our Zumba® Fitness classes, you can come try the class for free!

GUEST INSTRUCTOR – COLIN DILLARD
We are excited to announce that Hip Hop aficionado Colin Dillard will be coming to AIM as a guest instructor!  He will be teaching Miss Maggie’s Hip Hop classes on Wednesday 11/7 and Thursday 11/8.  Colin grew up dancing here in Richmond VA and currently performs as a member of RVA Dance Collective and has performed professionally with Kings Dominion as a breakdancer.  AIM is excited to bring Colin to our students to experience his incredible talent!  He will be introducing some fun and challenging floor-work and breakdancing moves, so get ready to sweat!

HOLIDAY SALE
Keep an eye out for a special AIM Holiday sale!  We will have tons of new merchandise available and special deals on Zumba® class cards.  These items will make fabulous gifts for any dancer or Zumba® enthusiast!  We will be taking pre-orders soon.

REMINDER – NAMES ON SHOES!
We’ve had a few dance shoe mix-ups and some abandoned ballet slippers at the studio, so I want to remind everyone to please write their child’s name on their shoes!  I recommend writing the name (first and last) on the inside of the shoe so it is not visible from the outside while performing.  If you have hand-me-downs from a different dancer, be sure to cross out the old name to avoid extra confusion!  Thanks everyone!

10/29-11/2: HALLOWEEN COSTUME WEEK
Students are invited to wear their Halloween costumes to class during the week of Halloween!  We recommend that dancers wear their regular dance clothes underneath of their costumes, just in case the costumes get in the way during class.  We’re excited to see what creative and spooky outfits everyone comes up with!

10/31: OPEN ON HALLOWEEN
All AIM classes are running on a regular schedule on Halloween (Wed 10/31).  Please email [email protected] to let us know if your student(s) will not be attending class on Halloween so our instructors can plan accordingly.

NEW HIP HOP CLASS ADDED
Due to the incredible popularity of this class, we’ve added a third Hip Hop 1 for 7-10 year olds on FRIDAYS from 3:45pm-4:45pm.  This class is open to brand new students and currently enrolled dancers.  Students in the Tuesday 6:30pm-7:30pm or the Thursday 5:00pm-6:00pm classes are welcome to switch into the new Friday class.  Just send an email to [email protected] or call 804-741-2246.  Be sure to tell your friends, too!  This class will begin as soon as we have at least 4 students enrolled.

NEW ZUMBA® CLASS ADDED
Beginning on November 13th, our amazing Zumba® Fitness instructor Henry Hill Jr. will be teaching a regular class on Tuesday evenings from 6:30-7:30.  This is a great opportunity for parents of students enrolled in the Hip Hop 1 class at the same time to get in the studio for a fun and energetic work out!  You can reserve your spot in class by calling ahead (804-741-2246) via email ([email protected]), or through our new online reservation system.

ADULT JAZZ/HIP HOP
AIM instructor Maggie Joseph teaches an awesome Jazz/Hip Hop class for adults (16+) on Thursday evenings from 8:00-9:00.  This is class is open to all skill levels and is a great workout!  Call or email to find out more and to reserve your spot in class.  804-741-2246 [email protected].

PRIVATE LESSONS
Miss Casey is now scheduling private lessons for dedicated students ages 7+ wishing to take their technique and artistry to the next level.  Lessons can be customized for each dancer’s goals and current ability level.  Rates vary depending on number of lessons scheduled.  Call or email for more info: 804-741-2AIM [email protected].

TUITION REMINDER
Just a reminder to everyone that AIM does not save credit card information for automatic monthly payments.  You will receive an invoice via email each month.  We accept payments with credit card online (through a link on your invoice) or over the phone, or you can pay in person with a card or check.  If no one is at the front desk when you come in, you can drop off a check for your payment at the front desk in the envelope marked “Notes/Payments.”  Email Office Manager Mary Rosenberg with any of your account questions: [email protected].

WOW!  Our first year is off to a great start!  Classes are underway, and students are already making progress and having a blast with our instructors.  Thank you to all of our parents and students for being a part of AIM!

Next week, September 24th-September 28th, is BRING A FRIEND TO CLASS WEEK.  Currently registered students can invite a friend to join in on the dancing fun!  Space in classes for guests is limited, so invited friends must RSVP beforehand.  Please call 804-741-2246 or email [email protected] at least 1 day before the class to reserve your spot.  If your guest then registers for classes at AIM, you will get a $20 referral credit on your account, and the new student will receive ½ off their registration fee.


We also have an exciting new class on the schedule:  THEATER AT AIM.  Theater isn’t just for Broadway stars! Join us for our weekly class that will introduce children of all ages to all that the theater has to offer. We’ll play games, learn improvisation techniques, and focus on speaking clearly and confidently in front of an audience (great practice for those oral reports in school!). Theater builds social skills, emphasizes cooperation and creativity, and builds self confidence.  Watch your shy child realize what he or she has to offer, or allow your attention-seeker to shine! Whether they dream of the silver screen or just want to try something new, take advantage of this opportunity to learn more of what the theater has to offer your child!
